West Virgina's Robert Byrd died Monday at the age of 92. He was the longest serving member of the United States Congress and enjoyed many accomplishments over the course of his career. Not many of the news commentaries, however, seemed to note that Sen. Byrd was - in addition to being a very vocal advocate for his home state - a very strong supporter of animals.
HSUS's Wayne Pacelle offered this thoughtful commentary that also ran on the Examiner.com.
